Unradiant Releases New Instrumental Album ”Ilma” – An Atmospheric Study on Air

April 2025 – Finnish ambient/IDM artist Unradiant returns with Ilma, an atmospheric new album that drifts between ambient minimalism, introspective IDM textures and ethereal sound design. Released by Secret North Media, Ilma (Finnish for Air) is a ten-track instrumental collection, with each track bearing the same name body – a deliberate choice that invites listeners to experience the record as one continuous, evolving breath.
Crafted in Jyväskylä, the capital of Central Finland, Ilma is Unradiant’s 8th album and most concept-driven work to date. It explores the invisible yet essential element of air as a metaphor for movement, stillness, fragility, and transformation. The album was mainly crafted within one month by Oula Maaranen, the constantly productive composer and producer behind Unradiant. The composition process was first influenced by an uplifting mental mood, while in the end, more clouds were appearing on the psychological sky.
From whispered pads to intricate rhythmic patterns, the album captures air in its many moods – from a gentle breeze to dense, pressurized atmosphere.
With influences ranging from Biosphere and GAS to Autechre and the natural world itself, Unradiant weaves organic textures with digital precision. Ilma exists in the quiet spaces and breathing layers, where emotion is carried through tension, peace, pulse and space.

Long time Finnish ambient & idm producer Unradiant´s new album ”Manuport” takes you to a carefully molded journey of tranquilling yet percussive landscapes, leading from the dark nights of Central Finland´s early autumn towards an inevitable catharsis on the long roads of this forestry solitary country.
Resting in the strange balance of tension and atmosphere, the album is the second one on Secret North Media label. Unradiant has released nearly 10 albums and other releases during the past 10 years.

Biography
Unradiant´s musical paintings and beats are like arctic winds that soothe, not banish. Yet mystical and tense enough to illustrate the labyrinth of mirrorlike lakes and forestry hills of Central Finland, the home of Jyväskylä-bound musical multi-man Oula Maaranen (Alas, Mantaray, New Waters, Maar Beats etc.).
Drawing inspiration from Alva Noto, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Boards of Canada, Vladislav Delay etc., Unradiant mixes elements of ambient, film soundtracks, idm and even candid techno. In the latter works of Unradiant, one can hear how acoustic and classical sounds meet cold and machine-like production.
From 2013 to present, Unradiant´s versatile catalog of throbbing landscapes covers five studio albums, two ep´s and numerous singles.

Unradiant’s new album ”Loputon” (endless in Finnish) is full of cinematic and beautiful ambient with a couple of glitchy percussive tracks as well. A perfect record for dark August nights. One of the album´s eight tracks is in collaboration with Secret North Ox. Loputon is the most dynamic Unradiant release to date and the first one with Secret North Media.
